The process of coming up with recommendations was a rocky one - the ideas we had in mind were already being implemented in the centre; yet the ideas that were not implemented in the centre were not sustainable for long. The principal had such a neat plan for the centre, she had all the answers to the problems faced. Our group took a long time to decide on the things we could do for the centre as we often hit a dead end, therefore we failed to stick closely to our timeline. Despite straying away from our timeline, our group managed to pull through by avoiding procrastination and keeping a level head. In the end, instead of creating a whole new solution to the problem, we decided to work on the current solutions that the principal already had and make it a better one.
During this whole process, communication was the key. I learnt that we had to listen and respect everyone’s ideas and thoughts as it contributed to the progress of our project. It was also important to ask for everyone’s opinions so as to avoid misunderstanding and confusion, as well as to give everyone a chance to speak from their perspective. As time passed, I got more comfortable with my group and I managed to step out of my comfort zone, freely expressing my ideas when needed. I appreciate it a lot that my group mates were patient and were always helping me out when I was confused about things or faced problems. Also, everyone in the group had different working styles - some worked better in the day while some worked better at night. I have learnt the importance of flexibility in order to adapt to everyone’s working style. Not only did it help in the collaboration of the group and better understanding of each other, it also helped in improving my own social skills.
